Can’t install camera nor scanner device drivers - code 39 - Won’t recognize it

All imaging devices fail on install. In my case Sony HandyCam DCR-HC21

The image devices have the yellow exclamation mark beside them.  The problem is that the Image class ID has a subitem LowerFilters of lvmvdrv. This is put there by Logitech WebCam. It causes the devices to fail if the Logitech WebCam has been uninstalled. error code 39 in device manager.

The problem might be stated:

  • computer won’t recognize digital camera
  • computer doesn’t recognize camcorder on firewire

The systoms are:

  • Windows won’t recognize your camera, camcorder nor scanner
  • Device will not show up in device manager under imaging devices
  • yellow exclamation mark may be beside the device

If  you are not comfortable doing this yourself and you need professional assistance contact BHO Technologists computer repair

Just the delete the subitem from the registry. See below: (CAUTION: Save the image below to your computer and view it completely before making any changes!!!) Some browsers will not show the entire image.

What’s In the 5.5 PC Tools Spyware Doctor Download?

Well…first a message from the CEO about the version 5.5 spyware doctor download: "PC Tools has recognized the inability of most anti-spyware products to provide consumers with an advanced, yet user friendly offering that provides superior protection and reduces both user interaction and memory usage,” said Simon Clausen.

With that let’s see what version 5.5 download of their antispyware software provides over and above previous versions:

  • Enhanced Rootkit Removal- Spyware Doctor 5.5 now has upgraded rootkit removal techniques that reduce the number of system reboots previously required to remove some of the most difficult rootkits. (This is a nice feature. I don’t mind rebooting to get rid of a rootkit but the fewer reboots the better.)
  • Improved Real-time Kernel Level Protection - unlike previous versions, the OnGuard real-time protection in Spyware Doctor 5.5 can now make decisions on threats earlier, at the kernel level, to help improve performance. (This is nice because speed has been a problem for scans especially during an operation such as file download or view. Other user-level apps cannot preempt the scan which should alleviate the freezing effect.)
  • Reduced Memory Usage - the overall memory usage and footprint for Spyware Doctor 5.5 has been reduced to ensure minimal impact to computer performance. (This is very important provided the number of computers out there that are at below recommended levels for memory. Remarkably, you can buy this under-equipped computer right off the shelf. Therefore, many of these computers will welcome this enhancement.)
  • Network Guard Enhancement - Network Guard has been upgraded to include additional protection against new threats that attack network registry settings, thus preventing them from interfering with your Internet connection. (This is good enhancement simply because Internet connection problems are usually mis-diagnosed when malware is the culprit.)
  • Intelli-risk Rating - in previous versions of Spyware Doctor unnecessary warnings may have occurred with inactive traces of threats rated as high risk. Now in Spyware Doctor 5.5, the intelli-risk rating system ranks threats by rating inactive traces of threats detected according to the actual risk posed.
  • Automated Threat Evaluation – Spyware Doctor 5.5 now incorporates automatic threat evaluation, providing standardized descriptions that allow easy differentiation and understand detected threats. (With the rapid change of threats, it is good to be educated in the nature of malware threats detected on your computer.)

USB drives and Digital Cameras Used To Spread Viruses and Other Malware

Hackers are now using USB storages devices to steal information from unsuspecting computer users. This is happening even though email is the hackers mode of choice.

Industry commentator Andy Patrizio claims that many criminals are revert to older methods of infecting machines with viruses.

He talk about the history in which crooks used floppy disks to spread the virus and now they are reverting to those methods once again.

"When a removable media like a thumb drive or CD-ROM are placed in a computer’s USB port or optical drive, respectively, a program can be automatically executed through the autorun.inf file," Mr Patrizio added.

Last month, the Independent commented that the malware writers and anti-virus software producers are inspiring each other to create programs of ever increasing sophistication. It is like a virus in the body getting stronger because of multiple clashes with an antibiotic.

It described the web as the "new Wild West" and warned that computer criminals are using products such as digital cameras as well as other USB storage devices to spread their infection.

Simple Steps to Remove Malware (i.e. Live Antispy) With Spyware Doctor

I just read an article in the Dallas Morning News about a technical manager named Jim Rossman that talked about a problem his mother was having with her computer. It appears that she was getting a series of errors and there was a dialog box that would pop-up and prevent her from using her computer (so it seemed).  Jim stopped by his mom’s house and noticed a program running called Live Antispy and noticed that it was asking her to buy the full version.  So he moved the Live Antispy window out of the way so he could get to her desktop. Jim remember that he had purchased spyware doctor for his mom before so he knew that she did not need this new antispyware. Jim ran a scan and found appoximately 6 malware infections and this Live Antispy software was identified by spyware doctor as  malware. He finished the scan and allowed spyware doctor to remove the infections and rebooted her machine and everything went back to normal.

If you are having issues like this one you can download spyware doctor here. If you are interested in reading the complete story click here
